Which potato varieties are you growing this year? I have chosen two: Blight-resistant Sarpo Mira, a maincrop which reliably produces large, red skinned potatoes that are good for all kinds of cooking; and Pink Fir Apple, a ‘fingerling’, I think Americans call them - long, red skinned and slightly knobbly potatoes that aren’t blight resistant but make the best salad potato. I have grown them both before.
There’s so many varieties to choose from. Are you going with old favourites, or trying something new this year?
This year I am mostly growing fresh air as a disconnect in my plots renders me homeless but some of my favourites are Sarpo Mira, a variety called Ambo which isn't very popular - we sometime have trouble sourcing it and BF15. The best first early is Premiere for taste. I'm fond of Arran Victory (which is also pretty blight resistant for a late crop) and Shetland Black because they're lovely. Now I come to think of it, there are so many great spuds.
