December is another quiet month in the garden, when the bad weather is a good excuse to spend time indoors planning for next year.
There’s something nice about the idea that there’s not much to do in the garden in November.
If October starts warm it can provide a nice breathing space, to catch up late harvesting, saving seeds and generally getting the garden ready for the winter.
‘Second cropping’ potatoes are seed potatoes that have been stored at low temperatures to keep them dormant so that can be started into growth in summer rather than spring.
Believe it or not, there are still plenty of seeds you can sow in August, for harvests from late summer through until the autumn.
If we’ve played our cards right, then July is one of the best months in the kitchen garden.
