Needy Elf

Those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter will be in the dark about this, but for August 2016 I set myself a challenge to comment on 5 blogs a day. I’m an avid blog reader, flitting about the internet like a flitty thing on a particularly flitty day, but usually my presence on a particular blog is fleeting and unannounced. Some of the articles I read make it here onto Tendrils; many more do not.

But bloggers deserve some love and attention for their tireless efforts to inform the world about important things (mostly plants, let’s face it), and so my #CommentLove challenge was born. I did it once before, in 2013, but it was time to revisit the idea. I am hoping that it turns into a new habit – not to keep on commenting on 5 blogs a day, but to comment more in general as I wander through the blogosphere.

Rather than keep a trail here on the blog, this time I tweeted each link as I commented. I came across very few blogs that made it difficult (or impossible) to comment, but there were one or two. I came across many more that made it difficult to find a corresponding Twitter name. If you want to make it easy for people to engage with you, you should display your social media Follow buttons with pride 🙂 Also, if you have a ‘Share’ tool on your blog, it’s probably possible to include your Twitter name in the automated message it creates – my WordPress plugin certainly lets me do it, and I suspect it’s fairly universal. And if you don’t think anyone is using your sharing buttons, have a look and see if they have any stats associated with them – you will probably find that they do!

Doing #CommentLove has caused a few people to stop by here and leave comments (which is always nice), and I’ve had one or two tell me (via Twitter) that they’ve found lovely new blogs to read from my daily lists. So, here, in all its glory, is the complete list of blogs I commented on in August. Or attempted to – if you go looking for my comments you’re bound to find that one or two of them didn’t stick. It’s the internet, after all, sometimes it has bad days!

(Please note that I didn’t rank #CommentLove blogs – I merely commented in the order in which I came across the articles. Being first, or last, on any given day was just circumstance.)
